Antidepressants' Interactions and Side Effects

The use of Duloxetine during drinking large amounts of alcohol may lead to a serious liver failure. Duloxetine is not recommended to the patients who suffer from alcohol craving.

Duloxetine is an antidepressant, which is an inhibitor of the serotonin reuptake and norepinephrine, and it has a weak inhibitory effect on the dopamine reuptake. Among 46 patients with chronic migraine, more than a half had serious improvements. In this case by the end of the three-month course of the therapy, the average number of days without a headache (within one month) increased approximately up to 60%, and the frequency of migraine attacks decreased to 40%.

Contraindications

Duloxetine should not be taken together with MAO inhibitors (you soul wait at least 2 weeks); people who are hypersensitive to the drug and its components; patients with closed-angle uncompensated glaucoma; women in the period of lactation. In addition, there is no any fixed experience of using the drug for patients under the age of 18.

Application Method And Dosage

The drug "Duloxetine" should be taken orally, swallowing the whole capsule, regardless of the meals. Do not crush / chew the capsules, do not mix them with liquids and add to any food (this will destroy the enteric shell of the capsule).

The initial dose of the drug is 60 mg a day and, if it’s necessary, the dose can be increased up to a maximum of 120 mg a day. In this case, the dose should be divided into two doses. For the patients suffering from severe kidney disorder (with a QC less than 30 ml / min), the initial dose is 30 mg a day. People suffering from the disruption of the liver functioning should reduce the initial dose of Duloxetine or reduce the frequency of taking this drug.

Side Effects when taking Duloxetine with Alcohol

More often, the following effects are observed: sleep disorder (both drowsiness and insomnia), dizziness (excluding vertigo), headache, nausea, dry mouth, constipation.
