The use of Duloxetine during drinking large amounts of alcohol may lead to a serious liver failure. Duloxetine is not recommended to the patients who suffer from alcohol craving.
Duloxetine is an antidepressant, which is an inhibitor of the serotonin reuptake and norepinephrine, and it has a weak inhibitory effect on the dopamine reuptake. Thus, the principle of its work is based on the increase of noradrenergic and serotonergic neurotransmission in the central nervous system.
It is a modern drug and its dual action mechanism has proved its effectiveness during treating depression at any stage. In addition to its high effectiveness, this antidepressant is distinguished by a considerable speed of action. A distinct antidepressant effect is observed in the first week of using Duloxetine. Moreover, the drug is characterized by a persistent and uniform effect, which helps to observe continuous improvements during the therapy period. In addition, Duloxetine has a strong analgesic effect, which occurs during the first two weeks of taking the drug.
The analysis of the effectiveness of Duloxetine in the fight against chronic migraine proves that the drug can successfully cope with the pain and increases the pain threshold. Among 46 patients with chronic migraine, more than a half had serious improvements. In this case by the end of the three-month course of the therapy, the average number of days without a headache (within one month) increased approximately up to 60%, and the frequency of migraine attacks decreased to 40%.
Duloxetine should not be taken together with MAO inhibitors (you soul wait at least 2 weeks); people who are hypersensitive to the drug and its components; patients with closed-angle uncompensated glaucoma; women in the period of lactation. In addition, there is no any fixed experience of using the drug for patients under the age of 18.
